UPDATE (Mar. 11, 2026): Charges upgraded in Lethbridge collision after victim’s death

Original Story

A senior has suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a vehicle.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it has apprehended a man in connection with an impaired driving collision.

Just before 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Mar. 2, 2026, officers were called to the intersection of 13 Street and 3 Ave North.

A 78-year-old man, who was walking across the street, was struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck.

He was taken by EMS to Chinook Regional Hospital and was later transferred to Calgary, where he remains in critical condition.

LPS says the truck was travelling eastbound on 3 Ave and turned southbound on 13 Street.

“The driver displayed signs of impairment and, following further investigation, was subsequently charged,” reads a news release from LPS.

Joseph Cameron Brewster, 56, of Lethbridge, is charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm and driving over .08.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

The LPS Victim/Witness Services Unit is providing support to the victim’s family.
