Police charge males with weapons offences

On March 10, LPS says officers observed a vehicle travelling erratically and the driver smoking from a drug pipe. According to LPS, a traffic stop was initiated in a southside neighbourhood where the driver and one occupant were arrested without incident.
During a search of the vehicle incidental to arrest, police say they seized an assault-style rifle – prohibited in Canada – and a loaded magazine. In addition, police seized nearly 13 grams of methamphetamine, a very small quantity of cocaine and a used drug pipe.
A 44-year-old Lethbridge man is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a prohibited firearm/ammunition, possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public and possession of a controlled substance. LPS says he was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court March 16.
