University of Lethbridge invites community to celebrate the brain at Brain Awareness Week

The University of Lethbridge has multiple events planned as they celebrate Brain Awareness Week.

From March 23 to 28, ULethbridge is inviting the public to celebrate local researchers, students, community partners, and more as they attend informative talks and open houses.

“Brain Awareness Week is an opportunity to highlight the research advances and contributions of our ULethbridge researchers, students, and community partners toward ongoing study of the brain,” says Dr. Robbin Gibb, Chair/Professor for the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN). “These events bring our community together to explore the latest discoveries in neuroscience and see how they shape our understanding of the brain.”

From Action to Cognitions: How the Body Shapes the Brain

* Dr. Claudia Gozales will be exploring how everyday behaviours reveal the deep links between actions and cognitions.

* It’s happening at the BMA Auditorium on Tuesday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m.

The Stressed Brain: Lessons from Earth and Space

* Dr. Gerlinde Metz will be educating attendees on how stress and social isolation can shape how brains function and influence both mental and physical health.

* It will take place at the Galt Museum & Archive Friday, March 27, at 5:30 p.m.

Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neurosciences Open House

* Attendees will be able to tour the department of neuroscience and learn what the labs are researching while interacting with organizations that support brain and metal health, as well as brain-building activities in the kids’ room.

* The open house goes Saturday, March 28, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
