US government closing gravel road in Montana to Canadian traffic

Mar 30, 2026 | 11:08 AM

A gravel road that once united two sides of the Canada-U-S border will soon divide them.

The Border Road is a 14-kilometre stretch between Alberta and Montana and it is set to close to Canadian traffic starting in July.

The U-S government says it’s shoring up border security and that Canadian access is being revoked.

The road has been shared by residents on both sides for decades and sits on the Montana side, but Alberta has maintained it.
