Police charge female with drug trafficking offences
Lethbridge Police have charged a female in connection with drug trafficking offences targeting members of the vulnerable population.
In mid-March, LPS says members of the Downtown Policing Unit, with support from the Crime Suppression Team and SCAN, initiated a short term investigation. Police observed a female subject repeatedly interacting with members of the unhoused population, including activity consistent with drug trafficking. In addition, police say they observed further drug trafficking activity occurring at a residence along the 1800 block of 1 A Avenue North.
On March 25, LPS says officers executed a search warrant at the property and located significant quantities of drug paraphernalia. One female and one male were arrested away from the residence during a drug transaction in progress. During a search of the subjects incidental to arrest, police allegedly seized approximately eight grams of fentanyl, 19 grams of methamphetamine and just under $1000 in cash proceeds of crime.
A 39-year-old Lethbridge woman is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000 and failing to comply with release order conditions. LPS says the woman is remanded in custody and scheduled to appear in court April 2.
