Lethbridge Fire Department holding CPR training 7 BBQ

Apr 9, 2026 | 4:19 PM

A free CPR training session is taking place in Lethbridge on Sunday, April 12.

Lethbridge Firefighters IAFF Local 237 will be hosting the session to teach community members how to perform CPR in case of an emergency.

The session is being done in response to proposed provincial changes that would separate EMS and fire services.

Local 237 believes the changes could potentially delay or eliminate ambulance response in Lethbridge and increase the need for residents to be able to look after each other.

“This is life and death. Seconds matter during an emergency and the province’s cost cutting will cost lives, says Local 237 President Brent Nunweiler. “We’re hosting a community BBQ so the people of Lethbridge can learn CPR, and learn more about this government’s plans to decimate the longest-standing integrated Fire & EMS service in North America. If the province hands our EMS system to the lowest bidder, there may be no ambulance when you call 911.”

Lethbridge currently has North America’s longest-standing integrated fire & EMS services, operating jointly for 114 years.

The training session will also be offering a free BBQ lunch and allow residents to ask what’s at stake for public safety in Lethbridge.

It’s happening Sunday, April 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 550 WT Hill Blvd S.
