Lethbridge amputee mentoring youth at Edmonton seminar

Apr 17, 2026 | 3:04 PM

A Lethbridge man is helping support young amputees at a seminar in Edmonton over the weekend.

Twenty-two-year-old Jay Berner, who was born without his hand, is taking on a mentorship role as a counsellor at The War Amps Child Amputee — or CHAMP — Seminar.

Berner grew up in the CHAMP program and says he’s looking forward to giving back and supporting other children with limb loss or limb differences.

The seminar is set to bring together about 100 young amputees and their families for a weekend focused on connection, support and education.

Organizers say the event helps kids meet others with similar experiences — often for the first time — in an environment where differences are accepted and celebrated.

The seminar is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at the Delta Marriott Edmonton South.
