Temporary closures on Stafford Drive South for crane operations

Apr 17, 2026 | 4:14 PM

City of Lethbridge officials say crane activity will once again require temporary traffic and pedestrian adjustments along Stafford Drive South on Saturday, April 18.

Officials say the work is expected to take around five hours.

Starting at 7 a.m., the northbound lanes between 4 Avenue South and 5 Avenue South will close. The city says two‑way traffic will still operate in the area, with northbound vehicles shifted into the centre turning lane. Both southbound lanes will stay open throughout the work.

According to the city, access to the parking lots behind City Hall will not be available during this time. The lot surrounding the former RCMP building, however, will remain open. Officials note, access will be restricted to the south entrance and drivers will be able to enter from either direction on Stafford Drive.

The east sidewalk, next to Stafford Drive, will also be closed for the duration of the work.

City officials say all traffic lanes, sidewalks and parking access are expected to reopen by 12 p.m.

Drivers and pedestrians are asked to follow all posted signage in the area and move carefully to ensure everyone’s safety.
