THOMAS KENNETH “KEN” BEET, beloved husband of Daniella “Dani” Beet (née Kubik) for nearly 58 years, passed away peacefully at Edith Cavell Care Centre on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the age of 85 years.
Besides his loving wife, Dani, Ken is survived by his only sibling Marilyn (Neil) Hewitt of Vancouver; sisters-in-law, Rose Hormoth, Millie Fen; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Darrell Wall, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Alberta, British Columbia and England.
He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Elsie Beet; his in-laws, Paul and Marie Kubik; George Fen, Paul and Pauline Juhar and Tony Hormoth.
Ken was born on November 14, 1940 in Barrhead, Alberta. Ken and Dani met in Fort Assiniboine, AB, where Ken was vice principal at the school teaching math, science and physical education. Daniella “Dani” was working as a social worker for Alberta Social Services in Barrhead. They married May 18, 1968 and moved to Calgary where Ken taught junior high school for three years before returning to university for his second degree in Computing Science.
Ken worked for the City of Calgary in personnel services for seven years, teaching courses and helping divisions with manpower planning. They next moved to Edmonton to work for Alberta Government Central Personnel Services teaching management courses and assisting other government departments with their management development plans.
When Ken was 18, he joined the Masons, one of the youngest persons to do so. He was proud to attend the lodge with his father and his patemal grandfather who were also Masons. In his 50’s, Ken became the Master Mason of Pembina Lodge # 126 in Sangudo Alberta, west of Edmonton.
Ken loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and trapping with his father and maternal grandparents. In the warmer months, weekends and holidays were spent with Dani, exploring Alberta, BC, and Saskatchewan, canoeing rivers and lakes in the areas and, of course, fishing. On his lunch hours during the week, Ken would go jogging in the Edmonton river valley which was just down from his office. In the winters, Ken and Dani would go cross country skiing.
On April 1, 2000, Ken and Dani both took early retirement and moved from Edmonton to the Kubik family farm near Turin. Five years later, they moved into Lethbridge, thus started their new careers travelling and exploring the world. Winters were spent primarily in Florida, enjoying meeting new friends from around the US and Canada and learning new sports like shuffle board. At least once a year, they spent time off the continent of North America. The couple visited over 100 countries before COVID brought things to a halt. Before they could resume their travels, Ken was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
A Memorial Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Trevor Potter officiating.
