Canada bounces back with 6-0 win over Latvia at U18 hockey championship

TRENČÍN — Thomas Vandenberg scored 52 seconds into the game, and Canada cruised to a 6-0 win over Latvia on Thursday at the under-18 world hockey championship.

Dima Zhilkin and Adam Valentini each had a goal and an assist for Canada, which outshot Latvia 48-19.

Tynan Lawrence, Kohyn Eshkawkogan and Zach Olsen had the other goals for the Canadians, who bounced back after opening the tournament with a 2-1 loss to host Slovakia on Wednesday.

Carter Esler stopped 19 shots for the Canadians.

Ilja Nikitins stopped 42 shots for Latvia, which played its first game of the tournament.

Canada, looking for its third gold medal in a row, will next face Norway on Saturday.
