The west side of Lethbridge will see a change to its landscape in 2027 with the planned addition of a $13.5 million multi-sport air-supported dome on the University of Lethbridge campus.

While the exact location has yet to be decided, it will be either next to or very close to the existing community stadium, and will be made available to community groups and the general public.

“The demand for quality indoor training, community activity and recreational facility space is overwhelming on campus and throughout southern Alberta,” according the university’s executive director of Athletics and Recreation Services, Neil Langevin.

He says the indoor dome will compliment two other facilities on campus – the Community Sports Stadium and the Co-op Centre for Sport & Wellness.

Among the funding components is a $1.15 million contribution from the University of Lethbridge Students Union.

“We are proud to invest in the Multi-Sport Dome for its impact on student programming, employment, wellness and scholarship funding,” added ULSU president, Alejandro Figueroa.

“Through this investment, we increase opportunities for our students, improve the health of our community, and create more student-focused spaces on our campus.”

The nearly 128,000-square foot dome will feature a 420 x 250 foot turf field, two sports courts designed for futsal, tennis, pickleball, basketball, and a multi-lane track.

Construction on the facility is expected to start next spring with a planned opening date of August 2027.
