Be prepared when venturing out into the back country

As Emergency Preparedness Week comes to a close, a friendly reminder from Alberta RCMP and Search & Rescue Alberta to also be prepared when you’re out in the back country.

With warmer weather returning, many Albertans, they say, spending more time out in nature, but it’s important to be ready for any emergency.

Some of the suggestions being made – research your hiking route in advance, leave your itinerary with someone you trust, wear bright and reflective clothing, be prepared to spend a night in the woods, and, where possible, use satellite technology, like a ‘sat’ phone.
