Fort Macleod’s largest employer held a grand opening of its new facility on Friday.

A combined wood and metal manufacturer, Structural Truss and Forma Steel employs a staff of close to 250.

Alberta Jobs minister Joseph Schow says it shows just how diverse the provincial economy is.

“Companies like Forma Steel and Structural Truss are an indication that we’re not just about oil and gas. That’s our past, it’s our present, and it’s our future,” said Schow.

“It’s a huge part of our success. We can build on that including agriculture…so, agri-tech, information technology, financial tech. Across a lot of spectrums we’re seeing interest in Alberta.”

Schow saying he’s also proud of the fact that not just Calgary and Edmonton are behind a flourishing economy, but rural Alberta businesses as well.
