Asian heritage celebrations at Multicultural Centre

The Southern Alberta Ethnic Association (SAEA) hosted its annual Asian Heritage Festival on Saturday, May 23 at the Multicultural Centre.

Organizers say the festival was a vibrant celebration of culture, food, and community. From traditional performances and delicious dishes to hands-on activities, the event was described as a rich experience full of learning and connection, and a great way to explore and appreciate the diversity of Asian cultures.

The Asian Heritage Festival included various activities including traditional vocal and instrumental music; dance performances; food vendor stalls featuring authentic cuisines; vibrant cultural costumes; artifacts from Asia with cultural displays, along with power point presentations and videos.

According to organizers, there were also several kids workshops in parallel throughout the event to educate the younger generations.

Officials say the festival attracted over 200 visitors.

Various member groups of SAEA who showcased their rich heritage in the form of food and performance included: India Canada Cultural Association, Bangladesh Canadian Association of Lethbridge, Nepali Association of Lethbridge, Southern Alberta Chinese Association, Maddy Young Belly Dancer, Luisa Quan, Lethbridge Iranian Community, Lethbridge, Afghan Canadian Society of Lethbridge, Nikka Yuko Japanese garden and Version 2, Filipino band.

Officials note, the event was supported by City of Lethbridge Community events support grant as well as the MARP grant by Government of Canada. The other proud sponsor was Suds Laundry Lethbridge.
