It was a record-breaking year for the spring version of the Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign, a 30-year tradition and fundraiser for local charities across the country.

Nationally, over $23.3 million in money was collected through sales of the two dollar cookies from April 27th to May 3rd.

In Lethbridge, almost $76,000 was raised by the 15 city-wide locations with the Logan Boulet Endowment Fund as this year’s choice of charity.

“This is actually our third time with them. We’ve done two holiday-sponsored (Smile Cookie) campaigns and, this one, we decided to do the main flagship campaign,” said franchise owner Azhar Buksh.

“So, they’ve had some experience working with us and we’ve had some experience working with them together, and you wrap that up and it comes out to record-breaking numbers like this, but it’s not possible without the support of our community.”

Toby Boulet, whose son the charity is named after, says several groups have already benefitted from the two holiday Smile Cookie events, which saw a portion of the proceeds donated to the endowment fund; among them: Kid Sport Lethbridge/Taber, the Regional Hospital Foundation, the Adaptable Outdoor Society in Pincher Creek, and recreation programs at the University of Lethbridge.
