A Coaldale community group has donated $300,000 to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation’s Bringing Hearts Home campaign.

Colleen Van Raalte with the Coaldale Wellness Association says it made sense to support the building of a new cardiac care centre, based on her organization’s background in fundraising for previous hospitals in the community.

“We really wanted to support the hospital because of that history with the four hospitals we had, traditionally, over a long period of time in the past,” Van Raalte said.

“So we felt it was really important to contribute in that way for a new facility in Lethbridge.”

The hospital foundation had set a goal of raising $30 million to build the new cardiac care centre.

While not able to ‘zero in’ on an exact figure, board chair Amber Darroch confirmed Wednesday they have almost reached that target.
