Wet weather on the way for Southern Alberta, Southeast B.C.

Environment & Climate Change Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for parts of Alberta this weekend, including the Lethbridge region.

It’s forecasting anywhere between 50 and 90 millimetres of rain beginning Saturday night and continuing until Tuesday.

Temperatures will also drop considerably with daytime highs on Sunday and Monday of only 11 degrees Celsius, a large shift from the heatwave we’re currently experiencing.

But even as the wet weather approaches, the City of Lethbridge and Lethbridge County remind the public that fire bans are in place heading into the weekend.

If you’re travelling west across the border in B.C., keep in mind heavy rain and potential flooding is also in the forecast there.

In fact, the BC River Forecast Centre has issued a Flood Watch for the East Kootenays.

This includes tributaries in places like Golden, Fairmont Hot Springs, Elkford, and Kimberley.

Warmer weather over the past few days has led to increased snowmelt rates and rising river levels throughout the region.
