The Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre will be the place to be this weekend if you love to watch traditional tae-kwon-do.

Some 520 competitors of all ages are coming in from around the world to compete including athletes from such countries as the U.S., Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, and India, to name a few.

Grand master and tournament director Darin Gibson, who was born and raised in Lethbridge, is thrilled to finally see the event become a reality.

“We’ve been planning this for about two years, discussed it with one of the international organizations, a little over two years ago, and it’s been a great process with our organizing team, since that time,” describes Gibson.

“This is the first time we’ve hosted an international competition on this scale. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring the best technical competitors in the world to my hometown. Several different organizations came together to put this on. We have 15 different countries represented at this tournament.”

The Tae-Kwon-Do International World Cup takes place in Exhibition Hall B at the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre Saturday and Sunday.

A weekend pass is $20 for an adult, $10 for ages 7-17, and free for those six and under.

Family passes are also available for the same household at $60.
