Warmer temperatures, lower humidity, prompt City of Lethbridge to impose River Valley fire ban
With all of our recent rain and ‘greened up’ coulees, it’s hard to think of fire bans, but the Lethbridge region and southwest corner of the province have dried up considerably in recent days – the wind playing a big factor.
With that in mind, the City of Lethbridge has issued a fire ban on all open fires for the entire River Valley.
“Current conditions, including warmer temperatures and low humidity, have created a high risk for fast-moving and uncontrolled fires,” said a statement Tuesday by the City.
“Even a small spark can quickly spread in dry grass and brush. Residents and visitors are asked to use extra caution. Do not light any open fires and ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished and disposed of safely.”
