A well-known Lethbridge photographer, now filmmaker, is putting together a four-part documentary on the city featuring not only its landscape, but its character.

Unvarnished: Lethbridge, says Robert Messenger, is designed to show the city’s true identity and from a ground-level perspective, one he hopes he’ll be able to complete in short order.

“This docu-series, in particular, is meant to become a gift to the city, so any ammenity that wants it. so the Allied Arts or the Public Library or anybody who wants it,” says Messenger.

“Right now, I’m doing a crowd funding operation on my website to help keep the lights on so I can produce this, but once I hit my goal, I’m gifting it to any city entity that wants it.”

Messenger calls the first episode, focusing on the downtown core, an honest, no-sugar-coating look at the community, and includes how business has taken steps to address social issues.

You can view the almost-23-minute video on YouTube by typing in the film’s title – Unvarnished Lethbridge.
