Bulls fall to third place in standings, three games back of lead, after shutout loss in Weyburn
The Lethbridge Bulls started a six-game road trip through Saskatchewan on a sour note Sunday night, shut out 1-0 by the Weyburn Beavers – the lone run driven in on a single by the Beavers’ Robert Gurney in the bottom of the eight inning.
Bulls’ pitcher Adryen Tietz pitched five-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless ball, 61 strikes on 95 pitches, and five strikeouts, but his team wasn’t able to capitalize on offense.
The loss drops Lethbridge from first to third in the West Division standings – 1.5 games behind the second-place Sylvan Lake Gulls, who split a doubleheader Sunday against Energy City, and three back of division-leading Okotoks, also in Saskatchewan, after the Dawgs edged out the Red Sox 8-7 in Regina.
Although they fell two spots in the standings, the Bulls can make up ground on the two teams above them with five games in hand on the Gulls and six on the Dawgs.
