Two-year timeline to complete

Picture Butte’s Piyami Lodge to be replaced by more modern, larger space facility

After over 10 years of working on the concept, the Green Acres Foundation officially announced this morning an expansion to the Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte.

Once complete, it will provide spaces for 50 residents, doubling from the current 23 rooms, and feature air conditioning to each room, something not in place right now.

Foundation CEO Dawna Coslovi says it will mean residents won’t need to leave the community that, in some cases, they grew up in or raised a family in.

“We have all levels of care here,” said Coslovi following Tuesday’s announcement.

“So, people can move in and they don’t have keep moving away from this community. They can stay here. They don’t have to move to the big city. This becomes their home and as their care needs change, we can adapt to help them out.”

The lodge already has a unique characteristic, and one that will continue with the new structure, it’s part of the Picture Butte Health Centre complex.

Coslovi says the renovations, estimated at between 27 and 28 million dollars, will be done in stages and see residents relocated as work is carried out.

It’s expected to take about two years to complete.

Piyami Lodge is Picture Butte’s largest employer with close to 75 full-time and casual employees working at the lodge.
