Residents feel drivers are going too fast

Town of Coaldale to lower resident speed limits beginning September 1

Originally considered some four years ago, the Town of Coaldale is moving forward on lowering its residential speed limit to 40 kilometres-an-hour.

Director of Infrastructure Dustin Yanke says the decision by Town Council follows a lengthy of driving habits in the community.

“A lot of comments that were being made was that people were driving too fast on residential streets,” said Yanke.

“However, when we actually did speed studies on those roads, we were finding that the speeds were all well below the speed limit (of 50 km/h). It kind of came back to the question, well, maybe 50 kilometres is too fast for what residents are wanting in town.”
