High risk rating, at times

Poor air quality continues for Lethbridge region Friday

Jul 24, 2026 | 6:56 PM

It looks like it could be another bad day for air quality Friday in the Lethbridge region with Environment & Climate Change Canada forecasting a level of 8 or high, on a scale which tops out at 10-plus.

Conditions are expected to improve for Saturday, though, only slightly with a moderate risk.

Under the ‘high’ rating criteria, which is between 7 and 10, anyone considered ‘at risk’ with an underlining breathing or heart condition, for example, is strongly urged to reduce or reschedule strenuous activities.

Late Thursday afternoon, the Air Quality Health Index, or AQHI, spiked at 7 prompting Environment Canada to issue a Yellow Warning for poor air quality.
