Fetal Alchol Spectrum Disorder, focus of September 9th declaration by Lethbridge City Council

Lethbridge City Council has declared this coming 9th of September as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Day in the city. 

Shortened to acronym FASD, the day is recognized internationally to raise awareness of the lifelong impacts of pre-natal alcohol exposure.

Debbie Deak, the coordinator with the South Alberta chapter, was pleased to see City Council make the designation during its regular meeting Tuesday.

“It is the leading neuro-developmental disability in Canada and we have a lot of work to do in having empathetic, non-judgemental conversations with individuals of child-bearing age about the importance of abstaining from alchohol during pregnancy,” Deak outlined.
