Application submitted to judicial review over validity of Water Not Coal petition

A petition calling for an end to future mining projects on the eastern slopes of the Rockies is making a return before the courts. 

The group, Water Not Coal, says it’s filed an application for a judicial review on a decision by the Chief Elections Officer deeming its petition invalid.

Lead proponent Corb Lund questions a verification process where a person has to give out personal information rather than having details confirmed.

“They were calling people in the wake of this huge data breach, and saying ‘what’s your name.’ Like, they weren’t giving a name and asking for a ‘yes or no.’ The were asking people to give their name, their home address, and all their personal information,” Lund said.
