Although there isn’t a final tally on the cost just yet, the Town of Taber’s CAO was glad to see the large ice surface at the community centre complex recently opened.

Derrin Thibault says, from the outside of the building, it may not have looked like a lot, but inside there was quite a bit of damage and replacement that was needed.

“The speakers had to go. All the netting had to go,” Thibault started.

“We did the entire board system. The other end was kind of crushed. Some of the glass was squished. We lost some seating on the end. All the lighting had to be replaced. The main electrical cable for the whole facility was on that wall, so that affected everything – lease holders…the auditorium.”

Thibault said the scoreboard has also been replaced with temporary clock and anything that was covered by asbestos in the blast had to be thrown out.

A large part of the facility was impacted during a propane explosion linked to the facility’s zamboni on December 17th of last year.
