"I consider myself extremely lucky"

Grand marshall Knud Petersen looking forward to this year’s Whoop-Up Days Parade

Aug 17, 2026 | 8:25 AM

CORRECTION: PARADE BEGINS AT 9AM (NOT 11AM, AS ORIGINALLY POSTED)

Longtime Lethbridge volunteer and philanthropist Knud Petersen will be the grand marshall of this year’s Whoop-Up Days Parade.

In April, when the announcement was made, Knud was asked how he felt about being chosen for the honour by several members of the volunteer and sports community.

“I’m just living out my dream and it’s not everybody who’s able to do that. For the last 30 years, I’ve been in a situation where I could support the community, support sports. All that kind of stuff, so, I consider myself extremely lucky.”

Tuesday’s parade begins from the Park Place Mall at 9 a.m., turning onto 3rd Street South, east on 3rd Avenue South, and north on 13th Street North

From there, it turns east onto 9th Avenue North, ending near Galbraith Elementary School on 8A Avenue North.
