Blackfalds RCMP officer arrested for intimate partner violence

A Blackfalds RCMP officer is facing multiple charges following an investigation into intimate partner violence.

According to a media release from the Government of Alberta, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed on July 9 to investigate allegations of intimate partner violence involving an off-duty RCMP officer in Blackfalds.

ASIRT reports that because the case involves allegations of intimate partner violence, they’re not naming the charged officer to protect the victim.

“This is a rare exception to ASIRT’s practice of publicly identifying officers charged with criminal offences. This decision was made to prioritize a trauma-informed approach and the privacy of the victim, while also ensuring public transparency that a police officer has been criminally charged,” said Katherine Murphy, CEO of the Police Review Commission.

Police say the evidence gathered provided reasonable grounds to believe that an offence was committed and ASIRT executive director Matthew Block determined the officer should be charged.

On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the officer was arrested and charged with assault, uttering threats, unlawful confinement, and intimidation.

He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled for first appearance on Sept. 24, 2026, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.

No further information will be released while this matter is before the courts, and questions about employment-related matters should be directed to the involved police service.
