Lacombe town hall turns heated as residents voice AI data centre concerns
Alberta Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish was in the hot seat Wednesday evening.
In front of approximately 300-400 people at the Lacombe Memorial Centre, he fielded questions and concerns from citizens in the government’s first of three in-person town halls on Artificial Intelligence data centres.
Glubish, who was invited to speak at the event by Lacombe-Ponoka MLA Jennifer Johnson, was met with boos, badgering, and other forms of heckling throughout the night.
Glubish said in his opening remarks that a lot of people province-wide have a fear of the unknown and was hoping to clear up how they’re using AI as a government and what are the opportunities they see for Alberta’s future as the technology develops.
