Temporary traffic-calming curbs to improve road safety
Building on previous traffic-calming initiatives, the City of Lethbridge says it is beginning to install temporary traffic-calming curbs at 11 locations throughout the community.
The city says this initiative is to help improve road safety and reduce speeds.
Officials note, traffic-calming curbs are large precast concrete units placed along the edge of a roadway to create temporary curb extensions or narrow driving lanes. These measures are designed to encourage slower driving speeds, improve visibility between pedestrians and drivers and shorten crossing distances at key locations.
The city says nine of the 11 locations were identified through the development of School Travel Plans as part of the Road Safety: Communication, Culture and School Travel Planning project.
