In Loving Memory of Peter Boyes
December 21, 1967 – August 26, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Peter Boyes, who passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Wednesday, August 26th 2026, after a courageous life dealing with diabetes, kidney failure and other illnesses that affected his body, but never his spirit or his mind.
Peter was born on December 21, 1967, in Bangour, Scotland. Peter is survived by his mother Agnes (Nancy) Boyes; brothers: Gerard, Thomas, and Lee (Cayley); sisters: Fran, Allison (Jeff), and Anne (Kenny); his nephews: Scot, Callum, Clark, Brae, and Tavish; and his nieces Ashley (Skene), and Lisa (Skene) along with his honourary nephew Jesse Holmes, niece Rebecca Mark (née Holmes), and special friend Tammy Holmes.
Peter will be lovingly remembered by many. He was a friend to everyone he met, and his warmth, humour, positivity, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression.
Peter never complained or felt sorry for himself. Even through the most difficult days, he remained positive, courageous, and determined to enjoy life. He had a wonderful passion for storytelling, photography, the outdoors, and he loved sharing his stories and experiences with anyone who would listen.
Peter would like to give his heartfelt thanks to the many people who cared for him throughout his illness. In particular, he wanted to recognize the wonderful team in the Dialysis Department at Chinook Regional Hospital, the many doctors who cared for him and became his friends, notably Dr. Morley Wong, Dr. Alison Mackay, and Dr. Sayeh Zielke and the amazing staff at St. Michael’s, with special thanks to Ruth, Lisa, Mandy, and Sky, as well as all of the incredible volunteers who became friends, Sue, Shaunagh and many more.
There are simply too many people to name who cared for Pete, supported him, laughed with him, listened to his stories, and loved him. You all know who you are. His family extends our deepest gratitude to every one of you for your love, care, compassion, and friendship.
In keeping with Peter’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, Pete would ask that everyone simply be good to one another, be kind, and, in true Pete fashion, perhaps have a piece of Dairy Milk chocolate or Jaffa Cake and a shot of JD in his memory.
Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. While our hearts are broken by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that Pete is no longer in pain, and with our dad John P Boyes and his best friend Darren Holmes.
If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s memory to St. Michael’s Health Centre Palliative Care Unit (https://covenantfoundation.ca/en/why-we-need-you/care-in-your-community/st-michael-s-health-centre), the Kidney Foundation (kidney.ca), or the Canadian Diabetes Association (diabetes.ca)
