Construction Notice: 5 Ave & 6 Street

Lethbridge residents are being advised of some construction set to take place next month.

“The City of Lethbridge would like to provide you with advance notice of upcoming construction activities in the area,” reads a statement from the City. “The intersection of 5 Avenue South and 6 Street South will undergo an upgrade, and the construction is anticipated to begin in September 2026. Construction operations are expected to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.” 

City officials say upgrades at this intersection include curb extensions and the addition of traffic signals. The addition of curb extensions aims to provides increased safety for pedestrians by increasing visibility and shortening their crossing time. The introduction of traffic signals is also expected to optimize traffic flow to facilitate the safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles. 

The city says the intersection will remain open throughout construction, apart from a potential one-day closure for paving operations.
