Alberta Wilderness Association against proposed changes this Fall to provincial water act
The Alberta Wilderness Association is opposed to a plan by the Province to allow producers to drain seasonal wetlands from private croplands.
While being touted as a restoration of property rights by the government, the AWA argues wetlands are still connected to collective watersheds.
Kennedy Halvorson, with the group, describes it as “increased destruction of one of the landscape’s main ways of naturally storing water.”
They add the negative repercussions are widespread and less water in streams impacts communities, industry, and agriculture.
