Rogers, Quebecor agree to 12-year NHL French-language sub-licensing agreement

MONTREAL — The NHL announced a new 12-year French-language broadcast arrangement in Canada, with TVA Sports securing rights through a sub-licensing agreement between Rogers Communications Inc. and Quebecor Inc.

The agreement was announced on Thursday, less than a month before the 2025-26 season begins.

Under the agreement, TVA Sports and TVA Sports Direct will air up to 350 regular-season games per season including 32 of the Montreal Canadiens’ contests, up from 22 last season, while retaining the exclusive French-language rights for Habs playoff games.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amazon’s Prime Video will stream seven Canadiens regular-season games in French next season, Amazon and the NHL announced Thursday.

Bell Media’s RDS will air the remaining 45 regular-season contests, down from 60 last season, as the NHL shifts to an 84-game calendar.

The agreement comes after Rogers signed a 12-year, $11-billion contract to extend its national broadcast rights last year.

The deal allowed the telecommunications giant to sub-license portions of its package, including national French-language broadcast rights.

The Rogers-NHL agreement is worth more than double the original rights deal between the two sides, which cost $5.2 billion over 12 years and expired last season.

Quebecor at the time paid more than $700 million over 12 years to become the NHL’s official French-language broadcaster in Canada through TVA Sports.
