One group says citizenship question becoming leading concern on referendum ballot
While separation seems to be the most talked about item when it comes to the referendum, one ballot question, it seems, is making its way to the forefront.
At least that seems to be one of the underlining themes of town hall sessions being put on this week by Public Interest Alberta.
Ballot Question 2 is asking for support for a law that would see only citizens or permanent residents receive access to provincially funded programs.
“In order to address the pressure on our schools and our ERs, and our deficit, we need to take away access to those things from people who don’t yet have citizenship yet,” explains Public Interest Alberta’s executive director, Bradley Lafortune.
