Alberta’s chief justice passes away at 62

Premier Danielle Smith and Minister of Justice Mickey Amery issued statements on Ritu Khullar’s passing. They appear below.

“It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Chief Justice Ritu Khullar. Throughout her distinguished career, she served Albertans with integrity and a deep commitment to the administration of justice. Her service will leave a lasting legacy in Alberta.

“As Chief Justice of Alberta, she carried the significant responsibility of leading Alberta’s highest court and earned the respect of colleagues across the legal community.

“Throughout her career, she dedicated herself to public service. Her many contributions have made a profound impact on Alberta and Canada’s justice systems.
