Lethbridge mayor Blaine Hyggen opened last week’s Community Issues Committee meeting by recognizing the recent tragic events in Nepal.

The mayor said he felt it was important to have the large Nepalese community in the city know they weren’t alone and were in the thoughts of many.

“I wanted to make sure I took that opportunity and recognized those folks that have families and loved ones that are there and some were travelling there, actually. We saw a lot of Canadians that were there as well, when this all took place and those who became Canadians, in time. So, we had to recognize those struggles that they’re facing right now is of importance.”

Hyggen says he’s heard that, per capita, Lethbridge has the largest Nepalese population in the country.
