Nominations open for Town of Coalhurst by-election

Nominations are now open for a spot on the Town of Coalhurst Council.

A by-election has been announced to fill a seat left vacant on council following Brody Prete’s resignation Aug. 28.

Nomination packages are now available, with anyone interested in serving their community to file their nomination by noon Nov. 9.

To be eligible, the candidate must be:

At least 18 years old on Nomination Day (November 9, 2026)

  • A Canadian citizen
  • A resident of the Town of Coalhurst for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding Nomination Day
  • A resident of the Town of Coalhurst on By-election Day
  • Not otherwise ineligible or disqualified

If more than one nominee is submitted, the by-election is set for Dec. 7, 2026.

Residents are encouraged to confirm if they are on Alberta’s Permanent Electors list before voting day by checking their registration at www.voterlink.ab.ca.
