Arrests made in Eden Valley murder investigation

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has arrested two individuals in connection to the discovery of human remains south of Eden Valley.

On Feb. 4, 2026, emergency crews responded to a grassfire south of Eden Valley and discovered a burned vehicle containing human remains, later identified as 24-year-old Calgary resident Frans Faras.

RCMP Major Crimes took carriage of the investigation and has since arrested two suspects.

37-year-old Vance Pidborochynski and 30-year-old Shelby Filkowski, both residents of Lethbridge, have been charged with first-degree murder.

Both appeared in court Oct. 5 and were remanded into custody.

Filkowski will appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks Oct. 30, and Pidborochynski will appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary Nov. 5.
