FCC comes out with first-half ‘cultivated’ farmland value figures
Cultivated farmland values, on average, rose by almost four percent cent across the country in the first six months of this year – albeit slightly down in our province, when compared to last year.
“Alberta grew 5.3 percent to start the first half of this year. It grew 6.6 percent last year in that same period. Pretty strong growth, overall.” explains Farm Credit Canada senior economist Justin Shepherd.
“We’ve seen margins tighten in the overall grains and oilseeds sector, so that is contributing to producers being more selective when they’re choosing to purchase or expand their operations.”
Farm Credit Canada defines cultivated farmland as cropland.
