Canadiens coach St. Louis says injured goalie Montembeault out ’10 to 14 days’

BROSSARD — Montreal Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault will be out “10 to 14 days” with an undisclosed injury, coach Martin St. Louis said Friday.

Montembeault appeared to injure his right leg or right groin in practice on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old from Bécancour, Que., had been expected to make his first start of the season Thursday night when the Canadiens hosted the Nashville Predators.

Instead, the Canadiens called up Jacob Fowler from the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League and gave him the start. He allowed three goals on 18 shots in a 5-2 loss.

Goaltending has been a problem for Montreal early this season. Starter Jakub Dobes, who was excellent in the Canadiens’ run to the Eastern Conference final last season, has a 1-1-1 record, 4.43 goals-against average and .857 save percentage to start 2026-27.
