Alberta RCMP issued 1,861 traffic violation tickets over the Thanksgiving long weekend as part of a traffic safety campaign.

This includes 755 for speeding, 32 for distracted driving, and 25 for seatbelt infractions.

Over the weekend, the police took part in enforcement initiatives as part of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s #OperationImpact2026, a campaign aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities on Canadian roadways.

As a result, four drivers received Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS) 24-hour suspensions; 21 drivers received IRS warnings; 55 drivers received IRS fails; and seven novice or commercial drivers received IRS zeroes.

“Operation Impact is an important reminder that road safety requires constant attention behind the wheel,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “While enforcement plays a role, every driver has a responsibility to make safe choices and help keep Alberta’s roads safe.”

However, there were 15 injury collisions and two fatal collisions during the enforcement period. Unfortunately, two people lost their lives.
