WRENTHAM —  What started out as a structure fire revealed something else once the smoke cleared.

Taber/Vauxhall RCMP were called out to assist Wrentham Fire Department with a structure fire on Monday, March 4.

While trying to extinguish a large shop fire on a rural property north-east of Wrentham, fire crews notified Police about the presence of suspected cannabis plants in the building.

Police did locate the remnants of a cannabis grow operation inside the shop. An area resident reports there had been more than 1000 plants inside.

RCMP officers remained on scene throughout the night awaiting the arrival of a Fire Examiner and the investigation is ongoing.
