Funds being raised, support offered for injured hockey player from Newfoundland
BISHOPS FALLS, N.L. — Atlantic Canadians are offering financial support and encouragement for a young hockey player from Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland, who suffered a serious head injury in a car crash last week.
Eighteen-year-old Scottie Greene of the St. Stephen Aces Junior A team underwent an operation last week at a Saint John, New Brunswick, hospital and was placed in an induced coma.
Derek Ford, the president of the Bishop’s Falls minor hockey association, has started a GoFundMe account to help Greene’s family through the crisis and by early today it had raised over $17,000.
The plan is to turn the money over to the family to offset the costs of accommodations, food and other expenses as they travel to see their son.
