Dec 16, 2016 | 2:06 PM

LETHBRIDGE –   In spite of an extended period of cold weather, lake ice at the city’s designated outdoor skating areas is deemed unsafe.

During the winter months, Lethrbidge Parks staff check ice conditions once a week at the designated skating areas, to determine if it meets public use stanards.

At Chinook, Henderson and Nicholas Sheran lakes, the snow covered ice ranges between 6.33 and 6.66 inches thick.   That is determined to be poor condition and not safe for public use.

Parks staff will continue to monitor ice thickness through the winter, and updates will be posted weekly on the city’s website
