Police investigating shooting at Grande Prairie Mall

Sep 16, 2016 | 9:04 AM

GRANDE PRAIRIE –  Some terrifying moments for shoppers at the Prairie Mall Thursday after a shot was fired sending people running for cover.

RCMP say around 5:00 p.m. two groups of males got into an altercation and that’s when someone fired their gun once, leaving one of the males with a serious but non-life threatening injury.

The suspects all took off and despite RCMP scouring the area none of them were located.

An innocent bystander was also hurt, she was also taken to hospital with a non life threatening injury.

Police say this was a targeted attack and there is no risk to the public.

Local RCMP, General Investigation Section, RCMP Forensic Identification unit and ALERT are investigating.

Jeannette LaFlamme was in the mall at the time.

“I was just on the north end of the mall waiting for an appointment. All of a sudden, there were people coming in droves on the north end of the mall essentially, not running out of the mall but getting out of the mall as fast as they could. We had one person come and tell the store to close up shop because two people had been shot at the food court.”

Another woman told our newsroom she witnessed the shooting. She said she was in the food court and noticed a group of guys who she says were “acting weird” and went to the entrance where they grabbed at a guy with a bag and shots were fired.

“I can’t believe it’s happening here!” she added.

“People were screaming, kids were crying and I hit the floor.”

More details will be made available when they become available from the RCMP.
