Leaders disagree on impact of carbon tax

EDMONTON – The fall session of the Alberta legislature has ended, with the Opposition Wildrose vowing to continue its fight against the province’s carbon tax.

Wildrose Leader Brian Jean predicts everything will be more expensive when the tax kicks in January 1st.

The government has said the carbon levy will cost a typical Alberta family less than 400 dollars more next year, while households with lower incomes will get rebates.

The tax will translate to four-point-five cents extra per litre of gas, while propane and natural gas will also rise, but Premier Rachel Notley says consumers will not see major hikes in the cost of groceries. (The Canadian Press)
