Fire results in half a Million dollars in damage to city bus and bus barn
LETHBRIDGE – Fire crews were called to an alarm at the City bus terminal, in the 600 block of 4 Avenue north, around 10:00 Saturday (June 16) morning.
While firefighters worked to contain the fire, police secured the area. Transit schedules to some areas of the city were delayed for a short time.
A statement from the fire department indicates the fire was limited to one bus that was parked inside the main building. There were no injuries but damage to the bus and the terminal was extensive. Estimated damage to the bus is tallied at $200,000, while smoke damage to the building is pegged at $300,000.
Fire investigators have secured the scene to conduct their investigation and barricades will remain along a section of 4 Avenue north while they work.
