LETHBRIDGE – There’s going to be a change rinkside at Hurricanes games this season.

The team announced Thursday, Sept. 14 that Twister is retiring as mascot, after being part of the team since its inaugural season 30 years ago. Twister will make one final appearance, at the home opener against Medicine Hat, Sept. 22.

The team is going through the application process for a new mascot, which will be unveiled at the home opener as well.

“It was very apparent to me during the Whoop Up Days Parade in August that I am ready to step away and spend more time with my family,” Twister was quoted as saying in a team news release.

The Hurricanes close out their preseason schedule in Crowsnest Pass Friday, Sept. 15 against the Kootenay Ice.
